Buy-and-build through targeted acquisitions of companies

Through targeted acquisitions, investors consolidate smaller businesses into a larger company. This strategy is called "Buy-and-Build or Roll-up."

My co-founder Thies Jacob and I were fortunate to meet in 2017 while working on exactly such a Buy-and-Build project. Thies was working as an M&A lawyer at a large law firm in Munich, and I was an M&A manager on the side of the Buy-and-Build case for a Swedish private equity fund. During this time, the foundation for the current #COLEXO idea was laid.

For the M&A process, "Buy-and-Build" presents several challenges:

  1. The established investment parameters must repeatedly be applied to a multitude of potential target companies. The peculiarities and specifics of each of the acquisition candidates must be taken into account.

  2. It takes time and money to gather information and documents about a number of target companies in a structured and parallel manner and to evaluate them simultaneously. Investors need this data and documents to properly assess essential substantive and strategic questions of one or more planned transactions.

  3. Large professional investors operate at a standardized level, with higher speed and more resources than small and medium enterprises. Here much needs to be translated and explained during the process. While the investor is often driven by numbers and data, the entrepreneur frequently focuses on other factors, such as the buyer's image and the protection of their employees' jobs.

This is precisely where #COLEXO comes in, offering both sellers and investors crucial advantages.

With our platform, sellers are efficiently prepared for the sales process, saving time and costs, while investors receive a platform through our software that allows them, especially in the Buy-and-Build scenario, to keep track of a multitude of target companies and later portfolio companies, and to create the conditions for an orderly exit during acquisition.

Our goal?

To make the M&A process not only more efficient and standardized but also more transparent for all parties involved.
